DESIGNS BY: Rene Gene
Rene's designs are inspired by Japanese architecture and are made of sustainable materials such as organic cotton and formaldehyde-free silk. The fabrics come directly from the weavers who live in the villages where the cotton is grown, where the silk is gathered and where the money is needed most. In 2005 Rene and an assistant flew to Nicaragua and trained a fair wage, fair trade, worker-owned cooperative who were creating t-shirts to produce her more complicated designs. Rene feels that all designers have the responsibility to understand what their impact is on the earth and to be socially responsible in their choice of production methods.
